Health and Safety Statistics - 2018/19

How else would you want to start a Monday? We have included the key facts and figures for all things health and and safety related in 2018/19. 



  •  Last year alone 1.4 million people suffered from a work-related illness - this could anything from a serious injury to stress related illnesses. 

  • Last year 602,000 workers reported suffering from work related stress, depression and anxiety. The highest sector for this was public admin/defence. 

  • 147 fatalities in the workplace. Last year the figure was 141.

  • The most dangerous sector being Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing with 32 deaths. 

  • The most dangerous accident last year was falls from a height, with 40 fatalities. (29% of the total number)

  • According to the Labour Force survey, 581,000 people

  • Only 69,208 none fatal injuries to employees had been reported under RIDDOR. 

  • Last year alone, the UK had 28.2 million working days lost due to workplace illness and/or injuries. 

  • £15 billion estimated cost of injuries and ill health from current working conditions (2017/18). 5.2 billion is the costs associated with just injuries. 

  • 364  convictions and prosecutions by the HSE in England, Scotland and Wales. 

  • £54.5 millions in given in fines stemming from the prosecutions from HSE

  • 11,040 health and safety notices issued by all enforcing bodies
